Web Mail using SquirrelMail

One option for reading mail at CSE is to use the SquirrelMail application via a World Wide Web browser such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.

Doing this is as simple as visiting the web page at:

https://webmail.cse.unsw.edu.au/

and logging in.

The username and password of your CSE account should be used, and SquirrelMail will only accept them over a secure connection (i.e. https: will be used even if you didn't ask for it) so it is safe to give your password.

Squirrelmail uses IMAP to access your mail so if you are familiar with IMAP or use a mail reader that is configured to use IMAP, then you will see some of the same mail folders.

A difference that could be confusing is that SquirrelMail only considers folders with a mail/ prefix. i.e. only folders in the mail subdirectory of your HOME directory. This can be changed by changing the Folder Path: in the Folder Preferences options page. You will then need to visit the Folders page to resubscribe to appropriate folders. It is imporant to have SquirrelMail use some prefix here, otherwise it will search your entire home directory for folders when you visit the Folders page.

NOTE: people who started using SquirrelMail before 10Nov2003 will not have this prefix of mail/ added. They should set a prefix in the Folder Preferences page.
