HP LaserJet printers and Windows 7

Printing to the HP LaserJet printers from Windows 7

If you are running Windows 7 and you wish to print to the HP LaserJet printers, you will need to follow the instructions below. The example illustrated here is a HP LaserJet 4100 DTN printer.
  1. Firstly, you should authenticate against our samba server to get the permission to print. Click the Start button and choose Run.... Then enter \\samba.cse.unsw.edu.au\username where username is your CSE username. Then at the login window enter your user CSE username and password.
  2. Choose Add a local printer
    3. Add Printer

  3. Choose Create a new port with type Local Port
    4. Local Printer

  4. Type \\samba.cse.unsw.edu.au\printername like the following for printer late
    5. Port Name

  5. Next step is to install the driver. Select HP for the manufacturer, then pick the model corresponding to the printer you are installing the drivers for, eg. HP LaserJet 4100 Series PS for postscript printing.
    6. Install Driver

  6. Type in a good name for it
    7. Printer Name

  7. And you are done.
