DHCP at CSE

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a network protocol used to get an IP Address and other important network details when connecting to a network.

CSE uses DHCP on a number of its networks to ease networking configuration, and also to provide some IP Quota safeguards.

Problems

There are several potential causes of problems with DHCP.

Incorrect MAC Address

For most DHCP at CSE, you are required to register your "MAC" address centrally. This is used both for IP Quota purposes as well as providing a static IP (in some cases).

Please check that the mac address that you registered is the correct one. You can find out the registered one as it is listed in the "owned machines" or "wireless" sections of the Account Control Panel.

Bad physical connection

Yes, that's right. Perhaps your cable or wall port is broken. Try a different one (but DON'T unplug another computer to do it). If you are using wireless, try a different area of the building. Note the coverage areas from the Wireless Network page.
