CSE Standard Equipment

This list is designed to be used in conjunction with the school's Policy for provision of Standard Computer Equipment.

The list represents a range of well specified computers that the School will provide to its academics and researchers.

In compiling this list, the School has leveraged savings made by the University in negotiating preferred pricing on specific configurations with its suppliers.

Standard Systems

The School provides funding for a standard desktop for PhD students.

Under certain circumstances, with Supervisor and IT Manager approval, a standard HP laptop may be approved.
A request for any other system will require Supervisor approval and an additional funding source.

All CSE Standard Equipment remains the property of CSE and supported for the life of the warranty.
Upon completion of a student research program, hardware will be reviewed in line with the school's end-of-life policy.
In the event of termination or withdrawal from a research program, hardware is recovered for re-allocation by the school.

From October 2023 CSE will be assigning a laptop computer when a new computer is needed. Desktop computers are no longer standard equipment.

Keyboard and Mice

All CSE supplied Desktops and Notebooks come with the standard CSE keyboard and mouse; at time of writing, HP brand.

CSE will ensure that the following minimum 'Standard CSE Monitor Setup' is available at each research assigned desk:
For laptop users
1 x 23-inch (or greater) wide-aspect monitor
For desktop users
1 x 23-inch (or greater) wide-aspect monitor PLUS an optional older second monitor (currently 23" wide-aspect)
suitable power and signal cable(s) to connect CSE supplied hardware

Standard CSE Monitor Setup hardware:

  • is associated with the installed location, not the User, nor the source hardware they are used with;
  • remains locked to the installed location;
  • remains the property of CSE;
  • is NOT eligible for asset transfer;
  • can be reverted to the 'Standard CSE Monitor Setup', in line with policy, if source hardware changes occur.

Any Non-Standard monitor configuration must be approved by the CSE IT Manager, on a per case basis, and usually require the user supply their own cables.
